Why book with a local

"Every homestay, boat and driver on this site is a partner I know personally."

Waynusa is run by Yani, a licensed dive guide who spent years working freelance across dive centers in Sorong and Raja Ampat. This isn't a booking platform — it's his network of trusted people, and a real person answers your chat.

Good to know before you come

Raja Ampat is remote and off-grid — that's the point. But come prepared.

Power & signal
Most islands run generator power from sunset to ~10pm. Signal is patchy — Telkomsel works best. Download maps offline.
Bring cash
There are few ATMs beyond Sorong and Waisai. Bring enough rupiah for your stay — homestays are paid in cash.
Entry permit (PIN)
Raja Ampat charges a marine-park entry permit. We arrange it for you and show you the official price.
Best season
October to April brings the calmest seas and best visibility. We will tell you honestly if conditions are not right.
Honest, like everything else here

Safety & health

Raja Ampat is a safe place to travel — but medical care is basic and far apart, so it pays to know where it is and to come prepared.

Where to find medical care

Village clinics (Puskesmas)
Government health posts in the larger villages. Good for first aid and minor issues — anything serious means moving on.
Waigeo · Misool · larger villages
Waisai hospital
Better equipped than the village clinics and reachable by boat from most islands. For serious treatment, Sorong is still the answer.
Waisai, Waigeo Island
Sorong hospitals
The best care in the region — several hospitals and clinics. In an emergency we bring you back by speedboat.
Sorong city, mainland

Simple precautions that cover most of it

Tropical sun Use reef-safe sunscreen or UV clothing — the sun on the water is stronger than it feels.
Stay hydrated Dehydration is the most common problem here. Drink through the day; rehydration salts are worth packing.
Mosquitoes & sandflies Use repellent in the late afternoon and evening — bites are more annoying than dangerous.
Ears & skin Rinse ears with fresh water after the ocean and keep them dry. Ear drops and antifungal cream are handy.
Small wounds Clean every scratch with antiseptic right away — in this climate small cuts infect fast. Tell your guide.
Currents & tides Some spots have currents too strong to swim against, especially around full and new moon. Follow your guide.
We're never far
Our guides carry first-aid kits and know the nearest clinic from every island. For anything serious we arrange a speedboat back to Sorong. Do get travel insurance that covers diving before you come.
Based on our own experience on the islands — not medical advice. Talk to your doctor before traveling.

Questions travelers ask us

How do I get to Raja Ampat from Sorong?
Fly to Sorong (SOQ) — we pick you up at the airport. From there it is either the public ferry to Waisai or a private speedboat straight to your island. We plan the timing around your flight.
How does booking via WhatsApp work?
Message us what you have in mind. We reply with real availability, a clear final price, and a suggested plan. You confirm in the chat — no forms, no booking portal.
How do I pay?
Bank transfer for transport and trips; homestays are usually paid in cash, directly to the family. We always show the breakdown — no hidden markup.
What's included in an open trip?
Everything from Sorong and back: speedboat, captain and fuel, homestay nights, three meals a day, and a guide. The marine-park permit (PIN) is listed separately at its official price.
Do I need a dive license?
For fun dives, yes — bring your certification card. Never dived before? A discovery dive with an instructor needs no license. Snorkeling needs nothing at all.
When is the best time to visit?
October to April has the calmest seas and clearest water. July–September can be windy in the south. Tell us your dates and we will be honest about conditions.
